Six questions I’m asked time and time again. The answers are backed up by figures, straightforward, and apply to everyone — no ‘it depends’ that doesn’t actually depend on anything.
How much does a website actually cost?
Between CHF 790 and CHF 2,490, depending on the number of pages: Landing 790, One-Page 990, Showcase Essential 1,290, Standard 1,790, Premium 2,490. This price is fixed — set out in the quote before work begins, and it won’t change along the way.
Only two things are added if you request them: additional languages (CHF 490 set-up fee, then CHF 790 for German, CHF 690 for Italian, CHF 590 for English), and the domain name + hosting, which are invoiced by the hosting provider, not by me. An extra page partway through? A written amendment, stating the price, before I start work on it.
How long does it take?
10 days for a showcase website, from the day I receive your text and photos — not from the day the contract is signed. In almost all delayed projects, it’s the client’s text that’s missing, not the service provider’s work.
If you don’t have any text, we’ll write it together: allow an extra week. The go-live date is specified in the contract.
Can I edit my website myself?
Yes. You can update your text, prices, opening hours and photos directly via your browser, without needing to install anything. You’ll receive an hour’s training upon delivery, along with a recording that you can watch again.
Things that require my involvement: adding a whole new page, changing the structure, or modifying the design. The rest is up to you. And if you’d rather not touch anything, just let me know: I’ll take care of it — it’s your choice, not an obligation.
If I want to switch providers, what happens?
You walk away with your website. Nothing to buy back, nothing to unlock. The domain is in your name from day one, the code is handed over to you, you have access to the hosting, and the text and images belong to you.
In practical terms: you give your login details to the next service provider, and they get to work. You don’t need my permission, nor do you need to let me know.
Do you have to pay a subscription fee?
Not to me. You pay for the website once. There are two remaining costs, which go to the hosting provider: the domain and the hosting, invoiced in your name, the exact amounts of which you can see and which you can change. Expect hosting costs to start at around 15.– per month, plus the domain name — that’s around CHF 200 per year for both, with Infomaniak in Switzerland. The price of a coffee a week.
A maintenance contract (updates, backups, minor changes) is available if you wish: optional, with a quote provided on request. A website delivered without maintenance will continue to function.
Why should I create my website in several languages?
Because 62 per cent of Switzerland speaks German, 23 per cent French and 8 per cent Italian: a website in French alone reaches only a quarter of the country. This is only useful if you sell beyond your local area — a neighbourhood shop doesn’t need it; a tradesperson, a hotel or an online shop do.
The browser’s translation tool is no substitute for a proper localised version: it translates after the page has opened, whereas Google crawls the page beforehand. Allow CHF 490 for set-up, then CHF 790 for the German version — and have it done before the site goes live, otherwise you’ll lose the SEO ranking you’ve already achieved.
